Thank you for your interest in Cherry Boas. My name is Royston Hunte I am a dedicated hobbyist, small breeder, collector, enthusiast and purist.

Cherry Boas is a hobby enterprise and an expression of this interest...

it's about the fun, enjoyment and fascination of keeping and caring for Boa Constrictors.

Herpetoculture, (and keeping boas) is an interest where I always seem to be learning something new and interesting; from people who have been involved with reptiles since "back in the day" to new enthusiasts who always find a way to make you think...it is an interest that continues to enlighten me in so many ways.

Keeping boas is for my own enjoyment, I limit my collection only to the number of animals that I can reasonably take care of;
interact with and have a "quality" experience with...if the number of animals I have become a burden for me to personally take care of and enjoy then I have too many. I don't keep a lot of boas and they are definitely not "livestock".

I have been keeping and caring for reptiles since childhood and as a hobbyist since 1991.
My collections have consisted of Guyanan/Surinam (more on that later), Argentine, Hog Island  and Columbian Boas.

I strive to collect and keep only "Cherry" examples of the boas I like for my own personal experience. Cherry picked as w/c imports or purchased from other breeders, the big colorful, dark "Guyanan" boas are my primary focus.

See pics of Big Red, Primo Maximus, Cherry-O- Baby and Cherry Cola.

For 2010 I am planning on obtaining pairs of insular Caribbean Boas from Dominica and St. Lucia; and getting involved with Annulated Boas as well.

My focus and emphasis is on my collection of pure breed, locality specific boas only. The small number of animals I will make available will be the result of this philosophy.

*DISCLAIMER: The following statement and position is my opinion and is not intended to offend anyone nor detract from anyone's individual beliefs or positions on the matter. This is a contentious issue in the reptile community and as such is presented here only to express my position as it pertains to the quality of boas in my collection.

It is in my opinion, a violation of ethical captive breeding principles to manipulate recessive genetic defects/traits, to breed HYBRIDS, ARTIFICIAL/ DESIGNER CREATIONS, CROSSBREEDS or *INTERGRADES.

In my opinion the distinctive and individual character of boas should be as they have evolved via natural selection. To foster an appreciation of the ideal boid as they are in nature.

I am a proponent of selective breeding of exemplary locality specific boas to embody and reflect this ideal.

(* Intergrades in the boid complex may occur at natures discretion; however this occurs in nature under specific sets of natural variables that I do not believe to be part of responsible captive management, under most circumstances.)
